Abiding Through Madness

Welcome to my “guide.” I’ve decided to call it “Abiding Through Madness: Nihilists Free Method”. For those who don’t understand what I am blathering about, well, that’s simple. After recently losing so many things, I came to a realization in life.

So let me give you some advice for these crazy times so you can keep a cooler head on your shoulders.

“I can’t be worried about that shit. Life goes on, man.”

What that means, at least to me, is that, while sure, you could get all wound up and angry sometimes, rather than caring about nothing but lashing out like an edgy teenager who just discovered Nihilism, we should just relax and take a step back. This is more like the fictional philosopher Didactylos from the Terry Pratchett novel “Small Gods.”

“Things just happen. What the hell”

Let’s just admit this about life: we are far too worried about the world around us. If I were to try and pinpoint a date when this all started, it would have to
be June 1, 1980, when Robert Edward Turner III launched the first 24-hour news channel, the Cable News Network, or CNN as it’s now known.
Now more than ever, with media groups trying to divide people, cause pain, and just leave us feeling more tired than ever in history, we need to find time to relax. This is a belief I picked up not only from Dudeism but also from my time as a Toy Soldier [a term for fans of a content creator named Dr. Steel], whose key belief was to have fun and find joy in life.

Tip #1 – Dumbphones

The term dumbphones is used to describe things like the Cat S22 Flip, LG Classic Flip, or even Xiaomi Qin F21. These are phones with modern features such as LTE/5G connections but mostly aren’t useful for social media or gaming. I am sure some readers are asking, Why not just use my old Nokia 3210?

Well, first off, if you still have a Nokia 3210, that’s amazing. Second of all, I am sad to break the news, but the 2G networks that were used by the Nokia 3210 are mostly all but gone; there are a few left here and there, but for the most part, you have to buy a new phone.

How many are being bought? Reports are very few, but an average of 20 million dumbphones were purchased in 2015 alone, and then it started to skyrocket.

A major plus of Dumbphones is that if you have to give a phone number to an employer, most apps won’t run on these phones, so it makes it so much easier to unplug from everything, which brings me to Tip #2.

Tip #2 – “Day of Rest”

“Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don’t work, I don’t drive a car, I don’t fucking ride in a car, I don’t handle money, I don’t turn on the oven, and I sure as shit don’t fucking roll!!! Shomer shabbos!!!!” – Walter [The Big Lebowski]

While I am not saying people should convert to Judaism, I would recommend people try to set aside a time to just unwind and be themselves. Personally, I try to relax using my hobby of software development, but at the same time, I find myself just unwinding with music albums, both of which are tips I will go into more later on.Another thing I would recommend is that while you set a single day every week to relax, try and squeeze in a way to relax whenever it’s possible. This moves us onto Tip #3.

Tip #3 – Find a Hobby

My personal hobby is software development. While I can’t recommend what hobby fits you the best, what I can say is that it’s an important part of self-discovery to find what you are passionate about and deprogram yourself from the insanity society places on us as humans that we must always be productive.

Tip #4 – Return to Full Albums

Now this is a tip I’ve learned: find a genre of music that you can listen to the whole album of and just let your mind wonder. Slowly disconnect from everything and ignore the insane push notifications and alerts that are sent by phones.

One genre I find myself returning to often is Space Rock and Neo-Psychedelia. Neo-Psychedelia is a genre of music that was born in the late 1970s to try and recreate or rekindle the heart and soul of the 1960s psychedelia genre.

Now I am not saying what genre you should listen to; in fact, you should find the genre that fits you as a person.

Tip #5 – Be Yourself

This takes us to the end of my advice, and let’s be real with ourselves, dear readers. You just need to find what makes you passionate, find what makes you… at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
