Memory is The Key: A RvB Fans Retrospective

“Do you ever wonder why we’re here?” that quote started a fantastic 21-year-long adventure. Sadly with David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery having finally pulling the plug on Rooster Teeth figured I write this entry, I personally saw this coming for years but hoped I was wrong.

I got into the series during “The Recollection,” the second main saga of Red vs. Blue Taking place fourteen months after “The Blood Gulch Chronicles,”

For those who don’t know the story Red vs. Blue follows a group of misfit “Simulation Troopers” who were picked from the military due to their incompetence and inability to perform as real soldiers, causing long stalemates. This was the perfect place to hide a top-secret artificial intelligence. Over the course of the series, a massive conspiracy is revealed to them, leading them to learn why no one came for them after the war supposedly ended.

The series featured fantastic music, great characters, and amazing moments, including some great romance.

I didn’t really get into much of their other works besides RWBY until Season 4 and their 2D animated series “Camp Camp.” I remember in 2016, when I was living in Toronto, going to see the studio’s first attempt at a live-action feature film.

In 2016, Rooster Teeth created a sci-fi film that posed the question: What if the iconic “Wow! Signal” from August 15, 1977, was actually a warning of an incoming alien ship? It was one of my best memories of going to see something at Carlton Cinemas. Then again, I am a sucker for awful sci-fi; it was like the perfect film for me.

Sadly, the studio started going downhill right around the time of the Lazer Team sequel in 2017. The exact date I would pinpoint is April 2, 2017, when the Red vs. Blue saga called “The Shisno Trilogy” began. My main issue was that, rather than having one writer as every saga before it did [excluding PSAs, Event Episodes, and such], this one had three writers: Joe Nicolosi, Jason Weight, and Miles Luna.

Miles Luna had a longer track record, but I always felt there was something missing. However, with the final season “Restoration,” we see the return of Burnie Burns, the man who wrote the first nine seasons and contributed to the first thirteen. I hope the characters receive the proper sendoff they truly deserve.

I’ve met some great people in the community. I’ve also met some real assholes, but all in all, the Rooster Teeth community was truly one of the best groups of people I’ve ever met.

If it wasn’t for them, I’d have never gotten into HALO, nor would I have learned how to use POSER (the software used to create RWBY Season 1 and extra shots in Red vs Blue: “The Project Freelancer Saga”) or DAZ3D. I still use quotes from the series daily, and for that, I will be forever grateful.

So in closing, I will likely do another post when the final episode of Red vs Blue airs, but to quote Season 13’s Epsilon: “I just want you guys to know that… Out of everyone I’ve ever met, I hate you the least.
