Can StarCraft Return?

Could StarCraft make a return in the modern day? Well yes and no, when I started writing this blog post I had hopes with the Activision Blizzard merger with Microsoft Game Studios.

I have a very long on again-off again history with StarCraft dating from 2004 when I was gifted a copy of StarCraft 1 along with the StarCraft: Brood War expansion pack leading up to the tragedy of May 24, 2018 when we lost the biggest commentator in the community John Peter Bain aka The Cynical Brit;

My connection to the fandom went as far to have my first custom computer case modification that was beyond was spray-painting a grey computer case was a red, green and neon purple themed “Zerg” Micro ATX Case I built with a plus-sized version of “The Queen of Blades” on the top, ah memories I used to take that case to many LAN Parties.

Unfortunately with the report on Jan 30, 2024 “Activision Blizzard Reportedly let go of 83% of Esports Staff” along with Microsoft Activision Blizzard’s new parent company doing massive layoffs across XBOX, Activision and Blizzard as reported by The Verge It’s starting to seem less and less likely we might ever return to Korhal, Char or Tarsonis.

Maybe someday we will return to this fantastic universe Brian T. Kindregan and Andy Chambers wrote as co-lead writers but for now we can hope someday we will have another moment like the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational where we saw the Wings of Liberty opening cinematic to announce StarCraft 2’s first story line.

For those who don’t remember or anyone who is too young to remember the Teaser Trailer back in 2010 the official StarCraft YouTube channel re-uploaded it in full 1080p quality.
